Mangalore: The Plastic bags used for small purchases by citizens have created a vexed issue, on removing them from public sight in markets by MCC.
The Mangalore city corporation Commissioner issued instructions to seize thin plastic bags, and on Wednesday, several dealers in such bags had the taste of municipal raids, search, and seizure of plastic bags from shops all over the city.
The team was headed by Manjunatha Shetty, an Environmental engineer in MCC. Sanitation inspectors and supervisor joined the team.
About 800Kgs of “banned plastic carry” were seized. Two dealers had committed the offence a second time which was taken as serious. A penalty was levied against a third stockiest Meenakshi plastics.
Less than 20 micron bags were seized from an abandoned vehicle as the owner escaped. He was a line seller in plastic bags, which are still found in circulation in city.
Some bags had Baikampady estate address, such banned materials come from big cities and also made in Mangalore.
