Mangaluru : The 9th month’s shramadan of second phase of Swacch Mangaluru Abhiyan was flagged off at Kottara Chowki Flyover area on 9th June 2024 at 7.30 am in the presence of Swami Jitakamanandaji, Adhyaksha, Ramakrishna Math, Mangalore by Rudolf Noronha, GM, Corporate Communications & Sri Kiran Kodikal, MCC Corporator.
Spekaing on the occasion, Sri Rudolf Noronha said, “The Swacchata Abhiyan initiated by Ramakrishna Mission in 2015 has become a role model for many other institutions in carrying out Swacchata abhiyans. I hope this will motivate the assembled youths too carry it further.” Captain Ganesh Karnik, Bellala Gopinath Rao, C A Shivakumar, Kamlakasha Pai, Sheshappa Amin & Ranjan Bellarpady were present on the occasion.
Cleanliness drive was carried out from 7.30 am till 10 am under Kottara Flyover. Team consisting of Uday K P, Umanath Kotekar, Damodar Bhat, Yogish Kayarthadka, Sharath Shetty, Balakrishna Bhat, Abhishek V Sudhakar, Sachin Shetty Nallur, Sunanda, Shivaram, Vasanthi Nayak, Mahesh Pai, Mukesh Alva, Sajith Koppal, Nitesh Kalnad & others cleared the liquor bottles, dirt, garbage, waste cloth, plastic & other items from the area. Lecturers of Mangala Nursing College, Naveen & Keerthiraj along with the students of Nursing college participated in the drive. Taranath Alva & Ashok Subbaiah led the group of students of Nitte Physiotherapy College & lecturers Dr Rakesh & Dr Jayesh removed the mud & sand blocking the flow of rain water and enabled the rain water to flow through.
Vector Painting on the pillars of Kottara Flyover
The 30,000 sq feet area below Kottara Fly Over was beautified during the 1st phase of Swaccha Mangaluru Abhiyan in 2019 during the concluding programme. Over the period of time due to wear & tear the painting son the pillars of the fly over were faded. It was decided by the volunteers of Abhiyan to repaint the pillars of the flyover. Two months ago MRPL Director Sri B H V Prasad had flagged off the repainting work. Under the guidance of Ramakrishna Mission, team of 20 artists of Aditattwa Arts led by Vikram Shetty has completed 7000 sq feet of Vector drawing on the 18 pillars of the flyover in 4 weeks’ time.
The Deputy Commissioner lauds the art work
The deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada District, Sri Mullai Mugilan has appreciated the initiative of Ramakrishna Mission of repainting & Vector drawing of pillars of Kottara Flyover thus decorating the Entrance to Mangalore city, sponsored by MRPL worth Rs 5 Lakhs.
