Mangalore : Heavy rains that have been lashing various parts of the district since the past few days have caused extensive damage. There have been cases of uprooting of trees at several places.
At Ajjavar traffic was disrupted after a tree fell across the road. The Kumaradharna river is flowing above danger mark affecting vehicular traffic. A branch of a huge tree fell on an Ambassador car at Bastipadpu near Bantwal, resulting in extensive damages. Luckily, the driver Sulaiman escaped with some minor injuries.
In Bastipadpu several trees fell on the roadside. A holy banyan tree fell in front of a hotel at Ajjarkad. However, all six persons including two children who were in the car escaped unhurt. The car belonged to Gurudev and family and all occupants of the car had rushed to safety on hearing the cracking sound of the tree coming down. However a passerby bike rider was injured.
The rains damaged two houses belonging to Sheenappa Poojary from Chelooru and Susheela from Panjikallu.
