Mangalore : At a meeting of the DK District Bus Employees’ Association held here it was decided to go one a one-day protest by keeping city as well as service buses off the roads on July 17, Wednesday in protest against the failure of the private bus owners to provide job security to bus employees.
The meeting presided over by Ivan D’Souza, President of Dakshina Kannada Karmika Parishat also said the bus employees will go ahead with the strike if their demand was not fulfilled by July 17.
The Association strongly resented the act of the private bus operators in pressurizing the bus employees to increase daily collection and also the act of the RTA in issuing permit for more than one bus on the same route and same timings.
Steps were also urged to prevent bus operators from recruiting drivers without licences.
It was also decided to submit appeals to the Deputy Commissioners of DK and Udupi districts as well as labour commissioner highlighting the demands of the Association.
