Mangalore: The state building and other constructions workers’ Federation, led by B.M. Bhat and Vasanth Achary, its President and Secretary – General respectively held a major protest rally in city to fulfil the demands made by the Federation of workers for a fair livelihood. A basic demand was to raise the pension payable to workers to Rs.4,000. The workers’ Children should be given scholarships all through their studentship days. The fierce demonstration was made before the office of the Labour Commissioner office this morning by CITU leaders.
From Jyothi Circle in Balmatta, the workers’ procession went round Bendoor well region where LC office is situated, to present a memorandum to the Labour Commissioner, to forward the same to Chief Minister Yeddyurappa in due course.
Vasant Achary addressed the demonstrators and told their demands were natural and within legal parameters. The govt should have no hesitation in granting their demands.
B.M. Bhat also spoke at the huge rally. Several labour leaders were present in the rally, such as Sunil K. Bajal, Jayant Naik, K. Shachindra, Shivaram Gowda and others.
