Kundapur : Forest staff and officials who had arrived at Kanyana village in Hattiangady to plant around 1000 saplings as as part of afforestation programme had to return disappointed after they were turned away by villagers as well as revenue and gram panchayat officials.
The dispute arose pertaining to the 11.30 acre land in Kanyana village. The land which was initially a government land was later allotted for other purposes. In 1980, the revenue department and gram panchayat had presented cashew saplings . But the forest officials who mistook that this was a land belonging to the department arrived there and began to dig pits to plant saplings only to be prevented by the gram panchayat and revenue authorities.
Gram panchayat former president, Totabail Santosh Shetty, members, Sablady Santosh Shetty, Ashok Devadiga, Prabhakar Shetty, village accountant, Kantaraju, and others were present on the occasion.
