Mangalore : The police have successfully arrested two theft in connection with precious idols from a Jain Basadi in Moodbidri and were produced before the magistrate on Tuesday.

The accused are Digambar Mohanty aged 59 and Diptimayee Mohanty aged 23. The thieves were arrested with the joint effort of Mangalore and Bhuvanehwar police.

The arrested Diptimayee is said to be the wife of main accused Santosh Das alias Ghanasyham who is absconding and Digambar, who is working as an attender in the State Housing and Urban Development Ministry in Bhubaneswar is his uncle.

Digambar and Diptimayee Mohanty arrested on charges of abetment, as they had refused to say the information of Santoosh.

Both are remanded to judicial custody till July 30.
