Udupi : Various places of Udupi district are experiencing heavy rains and the DC Dr MT Reju has declared a holiday for schools and colleges of the district on July 27, Saturday in view of heavy rains and in view of the met department prediction of more heavy rainfall.

The heavy rains also led to damage of property. In Alevoor, a tree rolled over a  house belonging to Sharada Poojari. There were even reports of damage to houses in Padoor, Innanje and other places.

In Kundapur, a huge tree fell on an electric pole at Siddapur on the state Highway.

The vehicular traffic was disrupted for some time following the incident. A major tragedy was averted when an unknowing KSRTC bus driver was proceeding on the road and was stopped on time by the cops by  signaling using a torch light.

Electricity supply to several places were affected.
