Udupi : The Government has decided to develop the Hejamady Port at a cost of Rs 100 crore and would be releasing Rs 50 crore as an initial amount, said Udupi district in-charge Minister and State Minister for Urban Development Vinaya Kumar Sorake.
He was speaking after visiting the Hejamady Port on July 27, Saturday. The minister said the breakwater works would be taken up initially. The Minister also stated that the state government was giving top priority for the development of ports.
Continuing the minister said the development of Hejamady port will go a long way in the development of the area.
The minister also visited the UPCL thermal power plant and inspected the plant and surrounding areas. On the problem of sea erosion at Tenka Yermal and the complaint of the locals that the break water constructed by the UPCL had aggravated the problem, the minister asked the officials to study the problem and submit a report. He said the breakwater will have to be removed by the UPCL if the report is in the affirmative.
