Moodbidri : Niddodi in Moodbidri saw a huge protest on July 28, Sunday against the proposed 4000 mw ultra mega thermal power project, Thousands of villagers came together to be part of a hunger strike launched to oppose the huge project in the village.
People braved the rains and took part in the protest unitedly. Alphonse D’Souza, President of the Mathrubhoomi Horata Samithi which is spearheading the agitation, said if only 800 acre of government land is available, the project needs 4000 acres of land and will spell doom not only on Niddodi, but also on the nearby Badaga Mijar, Tenka Mijar, Kallamundkur and other places where people have agriculture as the main occupation.
The protestors also wrote post cards addressing the Chief Minister and requesting him to drop the project.
Several including Dayananda Shetty, Convenor of Hasiru Sene. Joachim Tauro, President of the Gram Panchayat, members of Mathrabhoomi Samrakshana Samithi participated in the protest.
