Moodbidri : Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade unfurled the National Flag as achief guest during the 67th Independence Day Celebrations organised by Alva’s Education Foundation here on August 15, Thursday.

In his address, Dr Heggade stressed the need for the younger generation to work for a better and brighter India.

 Dr M Mohan Alva, Chairman of Alva’s Education Foundation, former minister Amarnath Shetty, Mijarguttu Anand Alva, Vivek Alva and Vinay Alva were present.

The 96th birth anniversary of Mijarguttu Anand Alva was celebrated. The Phalguni and Payaswini Students Hostels and Mulki Sunder Ram Shetty PG Study Centre Building were inaugurated on the occasion.

Swara Ninaada Kolhapur presented a concert of patriotic Hindi film songs.

Over 20,000 students of Alva’s instiutions took part in the celebrations.
