Mangalore :  Dr D Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala inaugurated the  National Senior Powerlifting Championships  at Town Hall on August 21, Wednesday.

In his address, Dr Heggade said  a physical fitness is vital for a person to contribute to the society. He also urged people to be service minded and contribute to the well being of the nation.

Vijaynath Vittal Shetty, Managing Trustee of Sri Shastavu Bhoothanatheswhara Temple, PP Hegde, President of Karnataka Powerlifting Association,  Satish Kumar Kudroli, Secretary of Powerlifting Championship Committee, Purandardas Kulur, former mayor and director of the event,  Sadananda Shetty, President of the Powerlifting Championship Committee and others were present.

The event will be held till August 26. Over 500 contests are taking part in the event.
