Mangalore : Five persons who were transporting cattle illegally in a vehicle were waylaid and beaten up black and blue by the public near the Kudupu Temple on October 9, Wednesday.
It is learnt the vehicle had sped after hitting a bike and knocking down the rider infuriating the public who chased the lorry which fell off the road near Kumbhashree Hall. The five men inside were caught and thrashed badly. The condition of one of them is said to be serious. The bike rider Santosh too has been hospitalized.
As many as 20 cattle were found crammed inside the lorry with Udupi registration number.
Three of the cattle smugglers have been identified as Abdul Rehman, Sameer and Haneef.
Kankanady Rural police are investigating the case.
