Bantwal : The 80th birthday celebrations of the Konkani statesman, Basti Vaman Shenoy, Founder-president of world Konkani language and culture centre of Konkanigaon were held on Sunday at SCS high school ground in Bantwal.
A rousing welcome was given to Vaman mam was accorder by hundreds of his followers, admires and students of high school who attended the day-long function. It was inaugurated by Mangalore University Voice Chancellor , Prof.TC Shivashankara Murthy by lighting a traditional lamp on the stage.
Prof. Murthy reeled out statistics on higher education in schools and colleges which he noted was only 14 percent to 18 percent in the PUC classes he called the high school students and those attending the colleges as “ very luck “ to pursue useful education after school.
He wanted the students to serve the society and the nation at last after they had passed out of colleges in various subjects of learning.
U.Ramadas Kamath of Infosys dwelt on his student’s life and the services done to his old school after he started his career. He asked the students never to forget their Alma Mater, and serve the needs of such institutions as old boys and citizens. In a key note speech during the morning session held for students in general .
Dr. M Mohan Alva Vidyagiri Moodabiri in his key note address referred to music , sports, literary activities and languages in which students can excel apart from their regular studies.
Dr. Mina Chandavarakar, Voice Chancellor of Women’s University , Gulbarga was in the chair, Prof. Ramachandra , Dr. Erya lakshminarayana Alva and many other scholars were on the stage. After the morning session Vaman mam was mobbed by admires with gifts and flowers.
