Moodbidre : About 3000 rural people took out a protest march from Kallamundkur to Niddodi on Sunday stressing upon the fact that a 4000 MW electric power project cannot be thought of, when UPCL had already polluted the atmosphere with is two units using coal as raw material to create electric power in and around Ellore and Nandikoor in Udupi district.
The people of 10 to 12 villages in Udupi district have already suffered from the effects of a coal based power unit in their midst and they cannot be expected to suffer even more due to the Moodbidre unit at Niddodi again.
The protest march was organized by Mathru Bhoomi Samrakshana Samithi led by Alphonse D’Souza, Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project led by Dugge Gowda, people of Niddodi led by Dr Sonda Bhasker Bhat , Lecturer in SDPT College, Kateel.
Prof . Bhat addressing the agitating marches stated that Niddodi was not a sound prospect of power generation in a fertile agricultural area such as Niddodi hence the govt. should drop the project plan in this area or to gather.
A memorandum was address to the Congress CM Siddaramaiah on droping this harmful project was forwarded through the Moodbidre Tahsildar. The meeting terminated with shouting of slogans against the Niddodi Power Project by 3000 peoples.
