New Delhi: It is now revealed that Sunil Gavaskar, former Indian captain, had helped Kochi franchise team to pull off an unexpected coup in the IPL auction before Lalit Modi was shown the door.
Gavaskar is alleged to have masterminded the creation of Rendezvous Sports World that won the Kochi franchise, in which Gaekwad family had 25% free equity share. The confirmation came after Gavaskar was dropped from BCCI – GC, and honorarium was abolished to 3 past players on the council.
Rendezvous team had decided to bid for the proposed Kochi franchise on Gavaskar’s advice. He was to look after IPL Kochi cricketing operations later.
The IPL governing council is expected to meet in this week to decide the Kochi franchise fate, as there are internal disputes.
