New Delhi: A day after Bharatiya Janata Party’s landslide victory in the Assembly elections in three states and emerging as the single largest party in the national capital, the ex-Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa seems to be in great rush to join his former party again but has informed that he has still not got a formal invitation from the senior BJP leaders.
“Have not got any response from the NDA leadership,” Yeddyurappa said with a heavy heart.
Last week sources had informed that the BJP was supposed to send a formal invitation to Yeddyurappa asking him to merge his own party, Karnataka Janata Party (KJP) with BJP.
But till today the ex-BJP leader has not received any such invitation. Reacting on the matter Yeddyurappa said, “I had written a letter to LK Advani about supporting NDA but I have not got any response from the NDA leadership so far.”
Earlier, a day after the conclusion of Assembly polls in five states, senior BJP leaders from Karnataka on Thursday had met party chief Rajnath Singh and had urged him to start the process of bringing their former leader Yeddyurappa back into the party fold.
A party team led by general secretary Ananth Kumar and state unit chief Prahlad Joshi had informed that the Karnataka Janata Paksha (KJP) leader’s return to the party is necessary for avoiding split of anti-Congress votes in Karnataka in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The 70-year-old politician is a known loyalist of the Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP’s PM candidate for 2014 General Elections, Narendra Modi. BSY had also given his support to Modi when his name was suggested for the post over party patriarch LK Advani.
Yeddyurappa, who quit as the Karnataka CM in July 2011 over mining bribery charges had left BJP last year and had launched his own party KJP. His party, however, suffered a drubbing in the Karnataka assembly elections and won only six seats.
