Bangalore – Mangalore day train to be halved in Mangalore to proceed to Karwar and Kannur.
Mangalore: It took long years to bring a day passenger train from Yeshwantpur (Bangalore) to Mangalore Central when Lalu Prasad was Railway Minister.
But in 6 months, Keralites intervened to divert it to Kannur, even when trains from Mangalore Central to Kannur and beyond were regularly running, and Kerala passengers could always find seats on a Kannur train at Mangalore Central or Kankanady, the Kerala linking station.
There is information elicited from Palghat Division and B-M Railway that the diversion to Kannur was incurring Rs. 2 lakhs per day.
So the local civic leaders like Hanumant Kamath, R.L Dias and Rajiv Gaonkar (Hiregutti) filed a writ petition that was accepted by High Court but Railway officials evaded presence when called. The Department has now proposed to divert and continue the journey of 10 bogies of B-M train to Karwar on Konkan Railway route and 7 bogies only to be sent to Kannur, to pacify passengers both ways.
