Manjeshwar: We regret to record the death of famous Tulu stage humor personality, Dharmendra Amin (40) at mid night on Monday when he had just finished his dialogs in a Tulu play of “Ellya Vishaya Malla Malpodchi” (don’t exaggerate small things), in the second act when around 2 am he collapsed with heart attack, during the annual festival of Sri Sadashiva Temple, Near Mangalpady in Sirigoli.
His colleagues in the drama immediately took him to Uppala private hospital, where he was brought dead. A poll of gloom
surrounded on the entire place where the drama was been in acted. His funeral at his Bangra Manjeshwara (Hosangady) home his due to take place on Tuesday evening on Dec.24.
He lives a wife, Smitha, a son and 3 sisters and a large circle of friends and admirers of his art, to mourn his loss so suddenly during a play was taking place, and his roll had ended with his unexpected death.
The late Amin had shown interest in his younger days to act in Tulu plays and had joined Tulu drama companies to perform in 5000 shows and 1000 dramas in a long carrier of two decades.
He entered the stage carrier in ‘Sharada Kala Arts’ of Manjeshwar and moved on to amateur dramas performed in Mangalore and Uppala teams. He had his own way of humor and character acting. Before long, he got in to ‘Lakumi Thanda’ a dramatic company of professionals promoted by Kishor D Shetty. He had acted with well known actor like Naveen D Padil, Aravind Bolar, Sundar Rai Mandara and worked relentlessly for 10 years to come up as a humorous actor in several ways to gain public appreciations and make a name for himself as a born actor.
“Naga Bana” of K V Shetty transformed his name in to an established actor in so many Tulu dramas wherever the team went and performed on stage. He was honored with the title of “Nata Bhairava” by Swami Rajashekharananda of Vajradehi Mutt in Gurupur.
He toured in Arabian Gulf Countries and Indian cities like Mumbai or Bangalore, and showed his merit and artistic talent in several dramas enacted during the tours.
Condolences and tributes have come to late Amin from his collegues in Lakumi Thanda, and Swamiji of Vajradehi Mutt, besides Sitharam Kulal, Sharada Arts Kalavidaru, Amma Kalvidaru of Manjeshwar, Kadri navaneeth Shetty (writer), Pavan Koppa, Naveen D Padeel, ‘Ranga Tharanga’ Kapu, Cha Parka Thanda and several others of the Drama world in Tulu on the west coast and Karnataka.
