Mangalore : District in-charge minister J Krishna Palemar inaugurated IMA Medicon 2010, the two-day 76th annual conference of the Karnataka State branch of Indian Medical Association held at the Dr T M A Pai International Convention Centre on October 30, Saturday.
Dr V S Acharya, honourable minister for Higher Education, Government of Karnataka participated as the chief guest. Delivering a lecture on ‘Health for All’, he said that the concept of family doctor must be redesigned to the present. The primary health centre has to be strengthened with the implementation of modern equipment.
The modern doctors have to confront more challenges and they must make sure to keep the community happy and healthy. The preventive measures and nutrition aspects must given priority, he added.
MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said that medical profession is one among the two professions which is close to god.
Today DK has gifted many medical colleges and encourage students to take this field. Doctors are also facing large number of problems and Government must try to sort it out. There are cases where the public pelt stones at the hospitals and protest in front of doctors, in case of death taking place. But doctors must work to provide service more than making business, he said.
MLA Yogesh Bhat said that public and doctors must also give similar importance to the health security as given to food security.
At present the infant mortality rate has decreased and when the doctors have commitment, the service becomes successful, he said.
Dr M Krishnaiah, president, IMA-KSB presided over the event. Dr GB Bidinahal, president elect, IMA-KSB hoisted the flag on the occasion. Dr Kaikere Mohandas Bhandary, conference secretary proposed vote of thanks.
