Mangalore: Berth number 13 for Petroleum and Oil Lubricants (POL) and berth number 18 for Container and Bulk Cargo were inaugurated with lying of foundation stone at the NMPT office by Dr. M Veerappa Moily Union Minister for petro chemicals and natural gas on Sunday Dec.29 here.
At a function held in NMPT office the Chairman of NMPT, Dr. P Tamilvanan praised the Union Minister, a local man for helping him with the expansion of New Mangalore Port. He honoured Dr. Moily and other dignitaries who had attended the function.
C S N Murthy Deputy Chairman of NMOPT was happy for the commissioning of berth number 13, which would take the port on new lines a long way to enrich the port.
Replying g to felicitations Dr. Moily described new Mangalore port at Panamboor was a major among Indian ports, and was doing considerable work to expand and to become useful in import-export trade in Karnataka.
Dr. Moily in his replay to felicitations, stated that Dr. P Tamilvanan as chairman of NMPT for the last 9 years, had done admirable work for our state and expanded the port area with as many as 18 berths, of which number 13 is ready now and number 18 is in the offing, with a Bombay technical firm in charge of construction and completion, at adequate costs.
B Ramanath Rai, minister for forest, Mangalore south MLA J R Lobo, deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim, and Tarun Kumar Jajoria, director of ministry of shipping, were also present.
