Udupi: During Paryaya festival which comes round in January 2014, it is the historic custom for the 8 Swmijies of Udupi Sri Krishna Mutt, to travel on the streets of Udupi in separate palanquins borne by their followers.
But on Dec.30, talking to pressmen at Pajaka Kshetra the Pejavar Swami Vishvesha tirtha informed the public of his decision not to sit in a palanquin, while entering Udupi and traveling in the streets in a palanquin borne by, in his case, Mogaveeras. He ruled out Palanquin ride on the shoulders of Mogaveeras or any human beings, but agreed to sit in a jeep with the seat of palanquin.
It may be noted that Rambhapuri Swamiji in North Karnataka, rode in a palanquin during Dasara on the shoulders of his back word classes followers in 2013. However the Pejavar seer wants the palanquin to be in a jeep driven by a driver when he sits in the palanquin.
This probably is his New Year decision for 2014 during Paryaya celebration taking place on 18th January, 2014.
