Mangalore : Endo-sulfan effects have created a raging issue in Sullia, Perala and Kasaragod areas on the west coasts with continues news paper publicity and deaths of persons affected by the poisonous insecticide that get in to human person and creates physical disability, which is noted in as many as 2700 cases in DK and 6000 cases in Kasargod district on the west coast.
A meeting called by Deputy commissioner AB Ibrahim at DCO hall on Saturday ( Jan.18, 2014) discussed the various aspects of Endo-sulfan deceases and disabilities created by its intake in areas of Belthangady and Sulia Taluk, were deaths have occurred in several families living in the pretests and hill religions.
Dr. Arun Kumar, Nodal officer of Endo-sulfan rehabilitation stated in the meeting that several specialty hospitals dealing with only Endo-sulfan effects, treatment and recovery of the patients was the need of the hour in a district studded with medical professionals, hospitals and medicines. As yet, no proper vaccine or effective medicine has been evolved or manufactured by drugs manufacturers or scientists to cure the deceases caused by Endo-sulfan.
He suggested the creation of special identity cards only for Endo-sulfan victims in the district and to select 15 specialty hospitals such as KMC, Fr Muller Medical College, AJ Hospital, KSHEMA and KVG Medical College to signup Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with them for free treatment for Endo-sulfan on their special identity cards, which will be issues on Jan.25th onwards to the patients. The coast of the entire treatment till the 2500 or more patients get well, but who are bed-ridden now.
DC Ibrahim ordered his officials to make a survey of the area where Endo-sulfan is raging and seek the opinions of local people as to/ regarding where the hospitals should be created to treat the victims of Endo-sulfan among them.
CEO of DK-Zp, Smt Tulsi Maddinani ordered the officials in Puttur and other Taluks were, Nityanada Pai and Peer Mohammed ( Two social workers) had asked for scanning the area for potential patients of Endo-sulfan and told them to make the necessary search for possible cases of victims outside the present area where they been found. This scanning, she said could be done with the help of local Govt. hospitals and private radiology centres already working in the area to take on a fresh burden in the form of Endo-sulfan victims.
