Mangalore : The officers of Customs at Mangalore International Airport have thwarted once again attempts to smuggle gold and as a result seized gold totally weighing 2,191.200 grams valued at Rs.65,29,776/- in three separate cases on 04.02.2014. In the first case, the officers seized 13(Thirteen) gold coils, totally weighing 999.650 grams and valued at Rs.29,78,957/- concealed in a electric hot plate stove from the possession of a passenger named Shri. Basheed Choori Abdul Rahiman, who is a resident of Bushra Manzil, Jeelani Nagar, Uliyathadukka, Madhur PO, Kasaragod Dt., Kerala-671124, arrived at Mangalore International Airport on 04.02.2014 at about 05.30 hrs. by Jet Airways flight 9W531 from Dubai.
In the second case, the officers seized two nos. of gold wires totally weighing 699.900 gms and valued at Rs.20,85,702/- concealed in a aluminium frame around the suitcase from the possession of a passenger named Shri. Nazar Thekkupuram, who is a resident of Thekkupuram, PO Keekan, Pallikere, Kasaragod Dt. Kerala-671316 arrived at Mangalore International Airport on 04.02.2014 at about 07.45 hrs. by Air India Express flight IX814 from Dubai.
In the third case, the officers seized four nos. of circular plates made of gold totally weighing 491.650 gms and valued at Rs.14,65,117/- concealed in two insulated hot cases from the possession of a passenger named Shri. Abdul Sathar Kasaragod, who is a resident of IX/280, Rahmath Manzil, Pallikere, Mouval PO, Kasaragod Dt., Kerala-671316 arrived at Mangalore International Airport on 04.02.2014 at about 07.45 hrs. by Air India Express flight IX814 from Dubai.
Further investigation is under progress in all the three cases. Operations were conducted under the supervision of Sri. Krishna Kumar Prasad, Asst. Commissioner of Customs, Mangalore International Airport. Out of the above three accused, two of them i.e Shri. Basheed Choori Abdul Rahiman and Shri. Nazar Thekkupuram, both from Kasaragod were later arrested and produced before the Judicial Magistrate.
Further investigation is under progress, under the guidance of Commissioner, Shri.D.Purushotham.
