Hyderabad : A group of Telangana Ministers, party seniors and members of the T-JAC on Friday urged AICC president Sonia Gandhi to attend a thanksgiving meeting planned by them in Hyderabad as a mark of fulfilment of the 60-years dream of the people of the region.
The Telangana Congress leaders during their brief meeting with Ms. Gandhi in New Delhi thanked her for her commitment to create a separate Telangana State. Sources said the party chief advised them against making provocative statements against their Seemandhra counterparts. “Earlier, you were the victims and now they are feeling the pain of bifurcation. I want all of you to observe restraint and avoid making comments that may hurt them,” she was quoted as telling the delegation.
Earlier in the day, Telangana Congress Ministers called on AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh. They said as gratitude towards the Congress leadership fulfilling its promise, a massive public meeting would be organised in Hyderabad where AICC president Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi would be invited.
Sources said the Ministers also urged the Central leadership not to recommend imposition of President’s rule in the State. They felt that a popular government alone would be acceptable to the people as it would reach out to the needy. They felt that Congress would do well in the region as it had overcome every hurdle to create a separate State. Ministers – K. Jana Reddy, J. Geetha Reddy, D. K. Aruna, D. Sridhar Babu and V. Sunitha Laxma Reddy along with APCC vice-president Md. Ali Shabbir met Mr. Digvijay Singh.
Meanwhile, former APCC president D. Srinivas called on the party chief and thanked her for keeping her promise.
