Mangalore : The Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy, Badami House Bangalore in association with Belli Saakshi & Bellimandala Units of Dakshina Kannada district will organize 4 days International Film Festival at Don Bosco Hall from November 14, Sunday to November 17, Wednesday.
Speaking at the press meet held at Hotel Woodlands on November 8, Monday, Dr Nithyananda P Shetty of Bellisaakshi said that Apart from Mangalore, the film festival will also be held in 5 other districts like Bangalore Urban, Shimoga, Dharwad, Bijapur and Belagavi.
A total of 16 international world classics will be screened as films per day. The films will be projected in the DVD format through powerful LCD projectors. As part of the film festival a seminar is also organized at Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan, Mangalore on November 14 at 4.30 pm, he said.
Dr Willy R D’Silva, social scientist and visiting Professor in Coimbatore University and Abhaya Simha, Mangalore’s budding director will participate as the resources and will present the papers on Cinema- a narrative’.
DC Subodh Yadav will inaugurate the film festival while Dr DK Chawta, honourable president of the organizing committee will preside over the occasion.
Since the films to be screened are classics, the students below 18 years of age are restricted to watch, he added.
The entry to the screenings isd through delegate passes. The delegate passes of Rs 100 for the public and Rs 50 for the students will be made available at select places and at the counters. This allows the cine lover to watch 16 international films for just Rs 100 or Rs 50. A ‘One Day’ delegate pass of Rs 50 is available for anyone wishing to watch just one show or all screening of one day, he informed.
The films to be screened on Nov 14 are Belli Moda, Tied Hands, Turtles Can Fly and Spring Summer Fall winter. On Nov 15 Train in the Tenth Floor, Jumping over the Puddle again, Yesterday and The Chorus, on Nov 16 The Battle of Algiers, City Lights, Pick Pocket and The Return and on Nov 17 Pasanga, The President’s Barber, White Balloon and The Road Home.
The Delegate passes are available at Mahesh PU College, Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan, Ganapathi Junior College, Dr H M Somashekarappa of Mangalore University, Govindadasa College, Surathkal, Karnataka Govt Polytechnic, Mangalore and Ambit Computers, Gokul Market, Mangalore.
Prakash Shenoy of Belli Mandala, Ivan D’Silva, director of the committee and Govind D Belgaumkar, City Editor of The Hindu were present at the press meet.
