Mangalore : The bundh call obtains good response in city. The Kraavali Jeevanadi Netravathi Rakshana Samithi along with various other organisations given bundh call for opposing the foundation-stone-laying ceremony of the controversial Nethravati river diversion project.
The Public transports, Government Buses and auto rickshaws were out of sight commuters were seen taken a walk towards their destination.
The roads are wearing an empty look and most of the shops and business establishments are closed. Buses are completely off the roads and only a few private vehicles are seen moving on the roads.
All educational institutions, Public sector Banks are closed during the bundh call. A few people were seen at government offices around the city.
Early in the morning activists had been sent back some private vehicles and requested the drivers to co-operate during the bundh.
Protestors had burnt tyres some places in the city. Stone pelting at buses were reported in Kodialbail and Adyar.
Tight security has been set up across the district.
