Mangalore: Lions Club Valencia organized a sports meet called as ‘Special Olympics’ for the specially abled children at Mangala Stadium on November 8, Monday.
Air Marshal Commander AVS inaugurated the meet. Mayor Rajani Dugganna, hoisted the flag and said that the talent and achievements of Special Children must be recognized at the international level.
She also said that these special children who cannot work on their own must be brought into the mainstream through various accomplishments. The sports meet is a platform for these children to display their talent, she added.
Lions District Governor JK Rao presided over the function.
Over 400 children from various schools including Chethana and Sanidhya of Mangalore, St Joseph School of Jeppu, Manasa of Panambur, Asare of Manipal, Arunodaya of Karkala, Lions school of Surathkal, and Chirst King Navachethana School of Venur took part in the event.
The children participated in 120 events organized in the event such as marathon, semi marathon, running race, walking race, lemon and spoon race etc.
