Mysore: “No good constructive work has taken place ever since the inception of Music University in city,” regretted Sarod Maestro Pandit Rajiv Taranath.
He was speaking after inaugurating the birth anniversary celebrations of Dr. Gangubai Hangal at a programme organised by Karnataka State Dr. Gangaubai Hangal Music and Performing Arts University at its premises on JLB road in Lakshmipuram here this morning.
Taranath pointed out that the Music University here was literally idle with no meaningful work going on. Citing an example, he said that not a single Hindustani Music Professor was available in the University. He opined that five years of existence of the Varsity had gone unnoticed probably owing to insignificant achievement.
Continuing, Taranath said that a tribute to a legendary singer like Gangubai should be in the form of a non-stop music programme and not through wasteful dry speeches. He advised the students to master the art of music through individual talent and not through marks.
A collection of rare photographs of Gangubai Hangal was exhibited at the Varsity premises.
Music Scholar Dr. Sukanya Prabhakar and Akashvani Programme Co-ordinator Ballari M. Raghavendra were the chief guests. Registrar Y.S. Siddegowda presided. Registrar (Evaluation) M.S. Shekar was present.
