Bantwal : The fifth and final day of ‘Polali Chendu’, was played with a great zeal at Rajarajeshwari Temple, Polali on April 10, Thursday.
The ‘Chendu’, a popular sport played during the annual festivities is played for five days and begins seven days prior to the ‘Avabhruta’ day. The five-day ‘Chendu’ include Kumara Teru, Hoo Teru, Soorya Mandala, Chandra Mandala, and Pallakki Utsav, followed by ‘Deevatige Salamu Bali’.
Apart from it, ‘Bayyana Bali’, ‘Pushpa Puje’, ‘Dandemale Utsavas’ are held during the annual festival. On the 18th day of Meena month, ‘Kolikunta’ is also being held.
It is said that in 1686, Rani Chennamma was impressed by this sport played during the annual festivities of the Polali temple, located on the banks of river Phalguni reflecting the cultural heritage of this region.
The car festival of the temple will be held on April 11, Friday and the festivities will culminate with ‘Avabhruta Utsav’ on April 12, Saturday.
