Udupi : Gopalayya Appu Koteyar (67) and his wife Sunanda (62), residents of Udupi, staged a hunger strike in front of the DC’s office on Friday April 11 against non-enrolment of their names in the voters’ list.
It is learnt that couple came from Maharashtra and has settled in Udupi from 11 years. They also hold all the essential documents necessary to exercise the vote, but due to panchayat’s fault, they are unable to exercise their franchise.
Koteyar said that they had received an apology letter stating that his name as well as his wife’s name are missing in voters list and would be enrolled next year after the revaluation process.
Udupi Deputy Commissioner Dr Muddumohan visited the couple during the protest and accepted the memorandum and regretted for the mistake committed by officials while enrolling voters’ names.
He also said that he will send a letter of enquiry to the assistant commissioner of Kundapur and promised to take appropriate action against guilty officials.
Gopalayya said that even though it is not possible for his name to be enrolled in this election, but he will continue his fight for justice.
