Udupi : A 65 year old man killed to death by one of his relative at Murathakadi in Herga village near Parkala on April 18, Friday.

The deceased is identified as Sridhar Shetty (65) who was killed by a sand miner and his distant relative Prashanth Shetty, Gunakar Shetty and Ashok Shetty.

The names of three accused have been stated in the complaint lodged by deceased’s wife Leelavathi Shedti.

It is learnt that Prashanth Shetty used to remove sand from Swarna river at Murathakadi from past 25 years and transported through the land owned by Sridhar Shetty. Later the clash erupted between the duo over payment of money and using the private land for sand transportation.

Sridhar was staying in his wife’s house at Balkatta and had come to his old house at Murathakadi, where he was killed.

Leelavathi also said that after getting the information of her husband being attacked, she along with her daughter Jyothi and found Shridhar in a critical situation and had taken the name of Prashanth Shetty before breathing his last.

Manipal police have launched a search for the three absconding accused.
