Udupi : Karnataka Communal Harmony Forum symbolically staged a protest in front of SP’s office in Udupi against an incident of caste-based discrimination (Pankti Bheda) which was witness at Udupi Sri Krishna Math, recently.
Addressing the protestors, G Rajshekar, president of the Forum said that recently one of the devotees Vanitha Shetty was asked to stop having lunch along with her Brahmin friends. This was seen all along, hence such practices only apply to those other than Brahmins.
He also said that the practice of Pankti Bheda is seen everywhere, not just the rural area, hence the government must put an end to such tradition and bring change in society.
Nityananda Shetty, husband of Vanitha Shetty, said that in spite of being in independence country, poor of been deprived from their rights. He also said that Vanitha is a teacher by profession and inspite of this she was ill treated in the society, without even respecting her profession, this is condemned.
G Rajshekar, D S Bengre and Paniraj submitted a memorandum to SP urging to take action against such practices.
