Kasargod : The Narcotics Cell Officials, who were investigating the 50 kg ganja case seized which was being transported in a car at Kunil at Mogral Puttur, revealed that the car was belonging to a Bangalore-based software engineer, which was stolen to smuggle the ganja.
It is learnt that the Kasargod police on April 30 had arrested Joy Joseph, a resident of Idukki was arrested while his accomplice Rojas has managed to escape from the police. The police had seized 50 kg ganja and Rs 10,000 in cash from the car.
Reportedly, the gang is accused of stealing a car belonging to Satish Kumar alias Sujith, a software engineer in a private firm in the Kalyani Tech Park near Maratahalli and a resident of Subash Chandra Road, Vidyaranyapura in Bangalore.
The gang who had hit the car from behind near BEL market and when he slowed down the car, they attacked Sujith with beer bottles and fled with his Swift car on April 12. Satish had informed the matter with Gangammanagudi police and confirmed the picture of his stolen car.
Another accused Rojas is said to be charged with several other cases including rape case reported from Kannur district and now in an attempt-to-murder case for assaulting Satish.
Kasargod station sub inspector T Uttamdas, Sunil Abraham, K Srijith, K Jyotish, Mahendran and Kamalakshan conducted the operation, under the guidance of Narcotics Cell DySP Suresh Babu.
The gang is said to be a habitual drug peddlers and used to visit Bangalore frequently to collect ganja from their contacts.
