Mangalore : 14-year-old Akshay Raj of Mangalore has emerged as the winner of Doodle 4 Google. His doodle was chosen from over 1 lakh doodles submitted from India and has been made live on the home page of Google India on the occasion of Chidren’s Day, Nov 14.
Std IX student of St. Aloysius High School, Mangalore, Akshay Raj beat 41 semi finalists to win the competition. His doodle is based on the theme of “technically and naturally growing India” and has been chosen as the winning doodle based on creativity, artistic merit, and expression.
The competition attracted over 1,08,000 sketches from students all over the country. Akshay’s creation was chosen by Master Doodler Dennis Hwang and Jennifer Hom from 41 semi finalists who were selected from more than 1 lakh sketches. The prize includes a technology starter package and a technology grant worth Rs. 2 lakh for his school from Google.
Doodle 4 Google was open to students from Std I to Std X. The participants had to create a doodle logo based on the theme “My dream for India.” During the past few years, Google has been publishing doodles, special logos that appear on special days to commemorate events, persons, or occasions.
