New delhi : Taliban militants on Tuesday fired upon a training camp of Airport Security Force near Karachi international airport and managed to flee, a day after an all-night siege ended with the killing of more than 30 people.
The militants attacked camp number 2 located at ASF academy in Bitai Abad, Pehlwan Goth, close to the Jinnah International Airport which had been cleared of militants after fierce clashes between forces and terrorists on Monday.
Reuters said two gunmen on a motorcycle had opened fire on the camp and fled after Pakistani forces retaliated.
Fights at the busy airport were also suspended. The have resumed now.
Inter-Services Public Relations spokesman said on Twitter that the “chase is still on”.
“Three to four terrorists fired near ASF camp, ran away. No breach of fence, no entry.Chase is on, situation under control,” said the tweet, reported Dawn.
Deputy Director General ASK, Colonel Tahir Ali said there were no casualties.
He also said the airport is secure at that operations have resumed. He said two attackers had fired near a ladies hostel near D gate, located behind ASF camp, reported Dawn.
The attack caused widespread panic among citizens in the vicinity which is adjacent to heavily populated Gulistan-e-Jauhar area.
This is the same area from where a group of 10 terrorists, who attacked and laid siege to the old Karachi airport on Sunday night, gained access to the restricted site.
A Twitter account, allegedly operated by Omar Khorasani of the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Mohmand faction, tweeted that the group has carried out this second attack.
Roads leading to the airport were cordoned off as the standoff between security forces and terrorists persisted.
