Bangalore: Two weeks after a 6-year-old girl was raped in her school premises in Bangalore, the city police chief Raghavendra Auradkar has been transferred on Monday. Auradkar has been moved in view of the deteriorating law and order situation in the city.
Karnataka Chief Minister K Siddaramaiah cleared the transfer orders of Auradkar.
Auradkar has been transferred to Karnataka State Reserve Police as an Additional Director General of Police.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Kamal Pant has also been transferred to Human Rights.
MN Reddy has been appointed the new Commissioner of Police and Alok Kumar as the new Additional Commissioner of Police (Law & Order).
Earlier in the day, the city witnessed violent protest as police lathicharged ABVP workers for trying to break the security barricades and barge into the school. BJP workers have also planned a march from Freedom park in the city to the Chief Minister’s house.
High drama was also seen in the Karnataka Assembly as Opposition MLAs demanded an adjournment motion, but the Speaker instead allowed a short discussion.
On Sunday, the first arrest in the case was made when a skating instructor from the school was arrested. The police are still looking for a second staffer. Police said that a laptop seized from the accused also contained child pornography.
The high-profile school is facing allegations of trying to hush up the case, as the alleged incident came to light only after a police complaint was lodged on July 14.
