Mangalore : CPI(M) in association with Dalit Rights Committee (DRC) staged a protest in front of MCC office on August 25, Monday claiming Mangalore city corporation to run anti-Dalit policy, since they have diverted 22.75% of the funds reserved for Dalit welfare.
Addressing the protestors, CPI (M) Mangalore committee secretary Sunil Kumar Bajal said that from many decades city corporation is showing injustice towards Dalits.
He criticized MCC for misusing 22.75% of the funds allocated for the welfare of the backward community in the corporation budget. The fund reserved for the Dalits have been used for civic works undertaken in the city.
Previously, Dalit community has submitted many memorandums to the corporation seeking justice on various issues but they have always ignored it. The organization has recorded all the documents pertaining to the misuse of funds through RTI and will surely fight for justice for the poor people.
As per the RTI documents, MCC have diverted funds reserved for Dalit welfare for road construction, laying interlocks, lake rejuvenation, playground and others. According to Constitution, MCC has violated the rule.
Apart from it, MCC has also failed to provide assured land of 1.50 cents each to the Koraga community, according to the Mohammad Peer report.
The protesters shouted slogans against the MCC and demanded their reserved funds for their rightful purpose.
Dalit Rights Committee president Lingappa Nantoor, Secretary Prashant M B, Tribe Rights Coordination Committee secretary Jayakumar and others were present.
