Bangalore : Senior BJP leader Shanthakumari and K Ranganna were unanimously elected as Bruhut Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Mayor and Deputy Mayor respectively on Sep. 05.
As there were no other nominations received at closure, Regional Commissioner Gourav Gupta declared that the Ms Shanthakumari and Mr Ranganna were unanimously elected as Mayor and Deputy Mayor.
While Shanthakumari from Mudalapalya Ward will be the 48th Mayor, Kamakshipalya Ward representative will be the 49th Deputy Mayor.
Ms Shanthakumari, who was elected to BBMP three consecutive term, had served as Deputy Mayor earlier.
Speaking to newsmen after being elected, she said her top priority would be to make Bangalore City free from garbage. “Though I have only six month time as election is due in 2015, I will do my best to deliver in the short term available,” she said.
Mr Ranganna, who was elected to BBMP twice from Kamakshipalya ward, said garbage free city, good education, asphalting roads, reducing traffic congestion in the city are his priority.
