Mangalore : Former national level volleyball player Arunima Sinha, who lost her leg after being thrown off a running train delivered the motivational lecture to the college students at a progamme organized by Yuva Brigade at Sanganikethana on September 12, Friday.
Sinha, who is first Indian woman to climb Mount Everest with an artificial limb, urged the students to be focused and ambitious.
Speaking on the occasion she said that, she was pushed out of the moving train by some hoodlums for resisting a chain-snatching when was going to attend a sports workshop at Delhi from Lucknow in 2011. In the same time, another train passed over her legs and she had to spend entire night between the tracks with serious injuries. Later she was hospitalized and doctors had to amputate her left leg at the age of 23.
She also said that in between the serious injuries she decided to climb Mount Everest and became strong and decided to fight against her drawbacks.
In the year 2013, with hope in heart she climbed the Mount Everest and made a record in 2013. This was not a day’s game but has made a lot of effort and underwent training for days together to reach the goal, she added.
Sinha, giving her own climbing experience urged the students not lose hope and put more effort to make their dream come true.
Further expressing her desire, Arunima Sinha said that she wished to set up an International Sports Academy for the weaker section of the society at the cost of Rs 25 crores and land for this is ready, she added.
