Manglore : Two unidentified assailants stabbed a executive engineer of Mangalore Electricity Supply Company (Mescom) at his residence in Bejai here early hours on Sunday, Sep 21.

Jagadish K. (54) was found with a slit throat and stab wounds on his torso on the first floor of the house, his wife Bharati, around 2.30 a.m., was woken up by Jagadish’s screams after he was stabbed by two men who slipped out of the backdoor of the house.

Police said a neighbour attempted to chase the culprits in vain. Jagadish was declared dead by the time he was rushed to the hospital.

Though a gold chain worth nearly Rs. 1 lakh was stolen from a table close to where Jagadish was stabbed, police are unsure about the motive of the crime.

DCP (law and order) Dr K V Jagadish and other police personnel arrived at the spot and conducted preliminary investigation.

The body was shifted to Wenlock hospital for post-mortem.
