Mangalore: Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim said that people are facing problems due to the increasing numbers of beggars in the city who often keep troubling them. Hence it is necessity to bring them to control.
He was speaking at the press meet with all the NGO’s held at DC’s court on September 25, Thursday.
Founder of Prajna Counselling center Hilda Rayappan said that government must rehabilitate such a beggars are not physically capable of working. They must increase beggar’s homes. She said that the begging women with child must be treated well and handle their situation with care since most of them decide to beg due to the harassment given by their in -laws.
Most of the time lack of job opportunity and skills will make them to beg. Some beggars also force their children to beg to increase their income. If they fail to bring then they will be beaten off.
DC said that city has less population growth in the country. Beggars come from other state or city here. District Social Welfare Department a Pachchanadi will accept any number of beggars brought to the centre.
He also directed the DSWD officer to appoint doctors to treat the beggars on contract or regular basis and also create continuous awareness drive.
The authorities of temples, Mosques and Churches must not allow beggars to beg and join hands to make Mangalore as beggar free city.
