Mangalore : Eid-ul-Adha (Bakrid) was celebrated by the Muslim community members with special namaz (prayers) being offered at various masjids in Mangalore and Udupi on Sunday Oct 5.
The Idgah Masjid in Light House Hill Road, after offering Namaz, childrens, parents exchanged Eid-Mubarak wishes. Community members offered special prayers at the Idgah Masjid at the Light House Hill. Mangalore Khazi Twaka Ahmed Musliyar led the prayers and later delivered blessings. Khazi explaining the significance of the festival called upon community members to pray for peace and harmony in the society.
He said that the festival is being celebrated to commemorate the sacrifices of Prophet Ibrahim, who built ‘Khaba’ at Mecca. “Prophet Ibrahim spreads the message of universal brotherhood,” he added.
Special namaz was offered by the community members at the Masjid Thwaqa at Pumpwell in the City. Similar prayers were offered at the Al Huda Masjid in Thokkottu.
Karnataka Health and Family Welfare Minister U T Khader, Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim offered prayers at Mangalore Eidgah Masjid.
Dakshina Kananda District-in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai, Mangalore North MLA J R Lobo among others visited Eidgah and exchanged Eid greetings.
Muslims visited houses of their relatives, where they were treated with special sweet dishes. A variety of delicious cuisines were prepared in Muslim houses.
