Mangalore : M S Mohammed assumed as the new president of Dakshina Kannada District Congress Minority Cell at a ceremony held at Shanthi Nilaya, Balmatta on October 7, Tuesday.
District incharge minister B Ramanath Rai handed over the charge to Mohammed by symbolically by handing over the party flag.
After accepting the charge, Mohammed thanked the Congress party for choosing me as the new president of the minority cell.
He also said that Congress is the only party which provides opportunities to people from all sections of the society. Congress had launched various welfare projects for the development of minority community and proud to be a part of an honest party.
Minister for youth services and sports Abhayachandra Jain said that Mohammed is the right person to be assumed in the post.
Speaking on his experience of Asian Games 2014, he said that he was the only minister from India to be present at the Asian Games held at Incheon, South Korea and sports lover with his own expenses and did not spend even one rupee of the government. He also said that he lived in a small room there for five days by just by eating bread and fruits and cheering for India’s victory satisfied his hunger.
Mangalorean athlete M R Poovamma has made India and Mangalore proud with her effort. The government has decided to give Rs 10 lakh for all who came first in the Asian Games, Rs seven lakh to the silver medal winners and Rs 5 lakh to the bronze medalists. Governmnet will also give Rs 10 lakh each to kabbadi and hockey players.
Congress district unit interim president Ibrahim Kodijal, MLC Ivan D’Souza, MLA Mohiuddin Bava, MLA K Vasanth Bangera, Puttur MLA Shakuntala Shetty, district Youth Congress president Mithun Rai and others were present.
