Mangalore: Karnataka State Pollution Control Board has given its approval to establish a plastic waste to fuel manufacturing unit at Baikampady industrial area which will be first unit in city.
Speaking on the occasion, a senior Karnataka State Pollution Control Board official said that a private entrepreneur has been given permission to establish unit and to start functioning and will receive it after inspecting all the parameters fixed for its operation.
A source in the Canara Plastic Manufacturers’ Association informed that a non-resident Indian was setting up the unit and machines were being installed with a capacity to process 10 tons of plastic waste a day and likely to begin work from November 15.
However the officials of Karnataka State Pollution Control Board said that it would be difficult to say whether it would start work by November 15 and a license will be granted only after conducting the inspection.
Meanwhile the Mayor Mahabala Marla had conducted a meeting regarding collecting dry waste with Office-bearers of the Canara Plastic Manufacturers’ Association, officials of the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board and health and environmental engineers of the civic body at the city corporation on Monday regarding collecting dry waste.
