Mangalore, Oct 28: Police have arrested the fourth accused on October 27 in connection to the Smart City office extortion case located at Thokkottu.
The accused has been identified as Naufal (20) from Kunjathabail.
Previously police had arrested other three persons identified as Kavoor Shanthinagar residents Iqbal (35), Hakim (24) and Isham (21).
According to police the arrested four belong to the Azgar Ali’s gang who resides in Dubai.
It is learnt that, two unidentified miscreants had vandalized smart city office at Thokkottu on September 30 and while another person was waiting for them on a bike. The accused has said to be fled from the scene after the incident.
During the police interrogation it is revealed that, Azgar Ali has been demanding Rs.2 crores as extortion money from the smart city builders by contacting electrical contractor Abdul Khadar. As they failed to pay it, Azgar Ali appointed the people to vandalize the building and later called them threatening to face greater consequences in future.
The team of officials including Inspectors Pramod Kumar Savithra Theja, Bharathi, Rajendra, Head Constables Radhakrishna, Mohammed, Mohan and others arrested the accused under the guidance and direction of police commissioner Hitendra and ACP Pawan.
