Mangalore : Members of the Communist Party of India(CPI) on Friday Nov 7 staged a protest against stoppage of eviction of forest dwellers if the area they lived was defined as eco-sensitive in the Kasturirangan Committee report.
H.V. Rao, CPI District Committee member, said a large number of families living in forests face a threat of displacement if the State Government implements the Rangarajan Committee report. Forest dwellers have every right to eke out a living in the forest and should not be displaced, he said.
The CPI activists also want the State Government not to take action against poor farmers who earn a living by cultivating on government land. Such farmers should not be considered as land grabbers. The government should take action against realtors who have illegally encroached on government land.
Erlier the activists marched from Townhall and held a demonstration before the office of Deputy Commissioner.
