Mangaluru : Minister for Health and Family Welfare U T Khader inaugurated seven new facilities at Wenlock district hospital namely Sewage Treatment Plant (STP), modernised mortuary, X-ray ward, DOT plus ward – DRTB centre and club foot care centre, dental care and emergency wards, on Friday, December 5.
The modernised mortuary is built at a cost of Rs 20.30 lakh. About 16 dead bodies can be kept in the mortuary (earlier capacity was eight). It also has LED lights and drinking water facility.
Around Rs 15 lakh has been utilised for the emergency ward and Rs 45 lakh for the X-ray ward. Now, in association with A J Institute of Dental Science, the hospital will provide various dental treatments.
Speaking after inauguration Khader said,a proposal to setup sub-units of Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology, Bengaluru and Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research, Bengaluru in Vamanjoor here has been already submitted to the government.
Khader said that measures were already taken to give the hospital a facelift, thus making it a super-specialty hospital. He said that dialysis centre in the hospital will be renovated adding that a digital X-ray system will be setup here soon.
Revealing more plans for Wenlock he said that a pharmacy functioning round the clock and a high-tech lab will be setup here within the next three months. A plan to open a branch of AYUSH in the hospital premises is in the pipeline, he added.
Dakshina Kannada District In-Charge Minister Ramanath Rai, Mangaluru South MLA J R Lobo, MLC Ivan D’Souza, Zilla Panchayat CEO Tulasi Maddineni and Vice President Sathish Kumpala, and MCC Deputy Mayor Kavitha were present among others.
