Mangalore: A coastal Karnataka’s First Travel exhibition, Mangalore Travel Mart, was inaugurated at 11 am today in the Milagres Hall Complex (Falnir) by Alok Mohan, IGP Western Range.
Speaking to a distinguished gathering, the IGP stated that Mangalore was one of the areas dominantly developing in India and it was on international Map. With a score of large hotels and a new airport for passengers and cargo, the city was ideally suited for tourism in many ways and the citizens of the DK – Udupi districts should develop this coastal area to attract more people from all over the country and abroad, the Chief Guest pointed out.
Mangalore (north) MLA, Veteran N. Yogish Bhat in his address stated that the Mangalore coast had tremendous natural sceneries and amenities by way of lodges and markets. There are historic temples, parks, forts and beaches here. There is a lot of scope for sustained development in DK Udupi with a small population, lot of education / technology / historical interest / languages and cultures here, he mentioned.
In the next two years, tourism will develop new horizons with all kinds of basic facilities in the length and breadth of Mangalore city which is developing towards Mulky and Manjeshwar. Roads, bridges and such other infrastructural entities will open up soon, the genial MLA indicated.
Sanjoy Sreevastava, regional Director, Govt India Tourism from Chennai, referred to the capacity of Tourism to open new avenues in a coastal state, as in Goa, for intrinsic development. There are facilities here waiting to reach out to the people who regularly travel to widen their knowledge and business prospects, he added. The Mart is open for 3 days with several shows.
Ms Lakshmi M. Kumaran, DGM, MRPL and Sadananda Shetty of Sri Devi Institutions were present. Roshan Pinto of Travel Agents’ Association, presided.
