Mangaluru : The road between Mallikatta Junction and Kadri Manjunatha temple is likely to become the city’s first road without overhead electricity power supply lines.
According to Mahabala Marla, Mayor and Ashok Kumar D.K., chairman, Standing Committee for Town Planning and Improvement at the Mangaluru City Corporation, the civic body has identified this road to a length of 580 m for upgrading as concrete road.
They told presspersons on Monday that the road would be upgraded at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.85 crore. The road would also be widened to 50 ft.
Mr. Kumar said that in addition, the government through MLA’s fund, has agreed to release Rs. 2crore for laying underground power supply cables on this stretch.
Houses and commercial establishments on both the sides of this road would be provided electricity connection from underground cables.
According to him it would become the city’s first such road without overhead electricity supply lines.
Mr. Kumar said that bids would be invited shortly for taking the particular road project.
The Mayor said that concrete roads were best suited to the city considering heavy rainfall.
